The Barber of Seville on a Segway!? Why not! HOT's production of this classic opera comedy was a great hit!
Christine Abraham as Rosina, Zachary Stains as Almaviva and Stephen Powell in the title role made their HOT stage debut with this production. Jake Gardner, Jamie Offenbach and Dorothy Byrne, three of HOT’s favorite American opera stars who regularly hold their schedules open to be available for the HOT season, rounded out the stellar cast.
This was Gardner’s fourth appearance on the HOT stage. Henry Akina first enticed Gardner to HOT for a multi-role opportunity in his staging of Il tabarro and Gianni Schicchi. Gardner then appeared in the sinister role of Scarpia in Tosca. “We pursued Jake Gardner for many years until the constellations finally lined up for his HOT debut in 2005,” said Henry Akina, HOT’s General and Artistic Director. “Now that he has fallen in love with the HOT family, we are delighted the stars continue to align as they have again for this season to continue Jake’s appearances in Hawaii.”
Jamie Offenbach and Dorothy Bryne have become familiar favorites of the HOT audiences over many years. Offenbach’s list of HOT productions include: Tosca, Rigoletto and The Mikado. Byrne has appeared on the HOT stage in Susannah and Otello, among others.
